Usually, one family had one home console. Families are composed of many people, and not every family had a SNES or a PS2. It's not so hard.
When CDs came out MP3 players weren't a thing, and definitely not the "ipod" either. In fact, the MP3 format didn't even exist yet as CDs are actually 80s tech. The improvement of CDs over cassettes was improved audio quality without hacks like Dolby noise reduction, but CDs were much more expensive to copy until CD-Rs and CD burners became affordable in the very late 90s and, for most people, the early 00s, so it's not like they replaced cassettes for all use-cases immediately. For PC software, CD was king.

@cidoku Yup, can confirm your second sentence!
I remember about half a decade ago during my stay in Japan. One friend had the Nintendo Switch and we would all meet at his place to play it. Not every household had one, but everyone got to experience it :)

@shingo i do think with your knowledge of china. why was china was so attractive to college aged white people to go and teach english in between 2009 to 2014 specifically? bro basically every millenial i know online and even many millenial youtubers i watch all randomly went to china to teach english and learn chinese around the exact sametime when they were in college

@shingo I'm laughing at the fact coffee didn't know that people found out about music through radio stations back then

For the first question: Most labels were hungry for new artists to join. This is where the trope in most band stories of "A manager finding a group in a bar & signing a band into their label" comes from. There was a HUGE demand for artists, so they were looking for many of them. Not only that, they were willing to put as much money as they could into their projects, as the music scene was exploding during this time.
In a way, this is still the case, but to a lesser extent. They aren't as risky, and that is because most new-gens have taken the manager position and being more safe, unlike during the 70's where those managers were like "fuck it, just make us some money".

@Ment4ll that nword literally did a genocide against people of his nationality for his greed (by sending us citizens to die in Iraq using lies to justify it) and used 9/11 to spy on people. You have to be one evil mf to genocide your own people not just other races or nationalities and spy on your own people too.

about french colonies, my grandma (french) was living in Algeria back when it belonged to us, basically they didn't consider the native people of those areas to be actual french citizens but families who came here from france definitely french
when she had to move back to france because of the war people here acted like they didn't consider her a real french person
