I never ate much Chinamerican food until I got older, but I recall only ever getting one "bad" fortune, and it was so much more exciting than getting a standard positive proverb.
I wish they'd make some real super-specific fortunes like "Don't trust your wife," or "Your milk will go bad tonight."

@milkdrinker Super specific ones would be fun. The one misfortune you *don't* want is to get food poisoning, which unfortunately I got at a chinese restaurant. Only time I ever got food poisoning from a restaurant

It's really emblematic of modern day American culture; any form of negativity is suppressed so people can only think happy thoughts. No fortune cookie factory would go against that, it would be bad for business.
