Indeed. I saw lives getting destroyed and I got tired of seeing people act petulant over trivial things. So I had it on Discord. Plus, a few people got off Discord voluntarily. So it was go time for me in 2023. I've been a happier man for it.

I joined Discord in December 2015, I thought it was pretty cool that you didn't need to pay a subscription to host your own voice server and I think that's how it initially got a lot of people over from teamspeak.
The big problem I have with it is how it's chats work, if people didn't know teamspeak was your own voice chat and your own text chat and there was not really a way everybody in the server could communicate with everyone else in the server.
Problem with Discord is that it felt like everyone was talking to everyone which led to people wanting to get noticed and get attention in a sea of messages. Fundamentally it felt antisocial to me and frustrating. I so wish I could go back to the teamspeak days of internet communication, far superior. It's probably too late to get the masses off Discord now everyone is already on there. Hell, it took Discord years to get people off teamspeak.

Thing with the whole "if your friends are real friends they would move to another platform to talk to you" is that most people just aren't willing to do that. And even if they are I know from experience they would just log on like once a week to view messages they wouldn't actually use it everyday to talk to you like they prob would on discord or Instagram or whatever they actually daily drive.
(I remember myself once having a discord buddy who quit and moved to Microsoft teams and I joined teams to talk to him but like I only logged on once a week for maybe a month at most and then I forgot about it and I factory reset my devices (long story for another time) so now I don't even have the account to talk to them anymore. But I know from being on the receiving end and giving end that joining a platform just to talk to one person usually doesn't last long)

@chimaera tbh I use so many messaging platforms. I wish someone made an app where they combined every chat into one app so you see DMs and group chats of every messaging service you use in one app. Like imagine if I had an app where I can text discord and xmpp and matrix buddies all in one place and save so much ram on my pc just having one tab open instead of 3 or 4 at once.
I would actually pay money to be able to have one app or site to be able to see messages from discord and xmpp and matrix and fluxer and emails all at the same time with only one tab open.
I don't even think it would be that hard to do if you get a bot to just look for new messages on each app and just copy-paste it to you in the everything app and your messages just get copypasted by the bot to someone on the official app. Similar to bridge bots

i think you focusing too much on the people on discord and not the company itself. i dont really care how the people act since i can just block people i dont like or dont join their servers.
discord as a company is the problem to me because they do nothing to stop pedophilia but they get so triggered over neonazis and "promotion of terriosm" which can even just mean you dont like US imperialism or NATO (i was in a server thats purpose was to shit on western imperialism and nato and it got banned for terriosm)
also discord adding dumb features and removing good ones.
discord not having e2ee chats even though even fucking instagram has them.
discord not allowing custom clients. discord falsy banning people for no reason but ignoring actual bad guys

fluxer is like a 2022 discord clone thats open source and they are planning to get federalization so you can self host and shit. i think it has potential to beat discord since it already got 100s of thousands of members within 1month of launching

But who knows,people are already migrating to other Alternatives like Root and Stout,so all i can say is,maybe one of these 3 alternatives can actually succeed where Discord has failed and disapointed many people.
