I decided to dig up this account just to leave a comment because i liked this video too much.
I don't use social media that much apart from watching youtube videos of people roasting old games source codes and chatting to a small circle of friends. Mostly because the internet nowadays is fucking boring, you would get a better chatting experience talking to a fucking ai than most of the people that you see on the "Big" sites.

Never heard someone diss on the term ensh*tification before, heh.
But yeah, I think I already do my best to stay away from microblogging and harmful social media. Im still really sad that a lot of my hobbies (programming, music, art, etc.) get me on my computer all day. Even if Im productive that means I spent all day slouching behind a screen :(
Ive been thinking about the authenticity part you mentioned. I know Im pretty new to this site, but I was disappointed a lot of people here are just reuploaders or low-quality webcam videos that think making a crappy video is nostalgic & cool. That being said, some people like you, cidoku, or laynus seem to make interesting videos with effort put into them. Im doing my best to follow you guys and become a good vidlii creator ;)

Hey I really liked this, judging by the title of the video I thought this would be about not being a tough guy on the internet or something on those lines, but no, this was a nice refreshing piece of little reflection. Personally I don't know why people share so much on the internet, using the example that you mentioned, Twitter, I don't know why people engage so much in fighting random users, or why they stay there if they hate it so much; I use twitter, and the only thing that I get is Touhou, cute things, and Touhou cute things, I don't know what people do with it to get so much trash wwwwwwwwwww.
On another note, thanks for putting effort in the edition, maybe it looks like a silly thing, but those little things are the ones that are important. According to another of your videos you use Blender, so you could try using object tracking, if you learn that, you'll save a lot of time, because you won't have to animate the movement and size of things, for example your face censor.

I have no internet at home. The only times I use the internet is when I'm at work, and that's it. Other than that, I'm enjoying the real world!
It's just like how it was for me in the 2000s. I was a teen in the 2000s, and the only times I used the internet was when I was at home, not doing anything. Even then, I'd just check MSN, Bebo or my hotmail. And that's it. After that I would keep myself occupied in the real world. The 2000s had that perfect balance between technology and the real world. And I wish it stayed like that

Everyone talks about enshittification but nobody talks about Metcalfe's Law. It's the endless quest to boost the numbers of users as the value of something is defined by how many people are on it.
That's why you see algorithms and skinner box design philosophies everywhere from social media to online games.

@gligar Also for how you use social media sites, that's the most true thing I've seen in the video.
I'd argue one other problem is that as older "hobby focused" websites died (Flickr, DeviantArt, forums) died off in favor of social media (Twitter, Reddit, Instagram, etc.) the scenes migrated there and as a result, it's hard to get noticed in certain scenes without social media of some kind nowadays.
They don't function as well as these dedicated sites did, they lack features that dying dedicated sites have, yet you can only get exposure there.
