@edray1416 I torrent my movies and p2p my music. I rarely buy CDs because it's rare that I find ones that interest me when in stores. What I can't find online I'll buy from eBay

these companies hoped the internet would provide them infinite growth. The irony is, that stopped right at the point they started hyper-regulating and limiting the services for political reasons

@TheSpoilsofWrath makes sense because I'm into underground music and even some Vinyl records that used to be fairly cheap years ago are now $100 or more.
@Sofiathefirst i know, it's such a shame. i remember when i first started collecting them, they'd be $5-10. There is a used record place I know where you can get them cheap. But I can't be bothered these days.
I'm conflicted. As much as I love physical media, when it becomes a trend, the prices skyrocket. Sometimes these prices are even inflated by the elite. Go look at what's happening with retro game grading.or TCG

I'm glad. When they started altering/deleting scenes from movies, I knew the old ways were better. Now I hear tell that record companies are auto tuning/pitch shifting performances of old bands. Scary part is when the og versions of analog products become hard to come by or extinct altogether.

Oh yeah, I've been lobbying for Warner Archive to release "The Sea Gypsies" from 1978 on Blu Ray. They didn't even put it on DVD. I've also been lobbying for Warner Archive to release "City Hall" from 1996 on Blu Ray. That had a DVD release.

@edray1416 I'd say keep trying. Eventually the crowd get's too loud for them and they capitulate to your demands.

I honestly agree with this video I used to pay way too much for streaming services and I actually love collecting DVDs and even sometimes Blu-rays I still course pay for one streaming service which is prime video just because have the easy access but I still collect discs because I actually like the feeling of owning a physical copy of of the movie I like
Personally not a fan of the trend. "Physical media" is fundamentally no different than any other digital data storage and therefore shares the same ups and downs. I see a lot of proponents of physical media collection try to reduce it to a matter of "a CD is something you own and will never have DRM, and there is simply no other way to own things", and get extremely dense or defensive when you inform them that there are, infact, online stores which offer the same kind of control, and plenty of discs that do not. Mostly people who claim to be retro gamers but only play popular "classics", not games they like. Some of it is computer illiteracy, but I think marketing to sell brand new collectors editions and "ports" (emulation wrappers using fan dumps) could be the source of it too.
For the record, I have a collection and I'm proud to own it. I keep binary 1:1 backups of them of course. I see genuine value in buying these, but I think a lot of people don't and they just create excuses.

@madarao Of course there's a difference. Ever since companies have been altering original versions for "modern sensibilities." In the modern day You aren't getting the same product the artist/band originally intended. They are auto tuning/pitch shifting old music now. Go watch WingsofPegasus to see what I'm talking about.

@TheSpoilsofWrath That depends on who masters and distributes that artist's music, though. Something worth looking into before buying if there's info available. Thankfully AFAIK, the artists I listen to haven't suffered from the Loudness Wars or anything similar, except for Labyrinth and maybe a couple other metal bands with older releases. I can't speak for oldies though, I have nothing in my collection from before the 1980s except for a David Bowie compilation. Interestingly, pitch shifting upward has been done for quite a long time even before recorded music as a sort of cheat, so it's not just modern masters of old recordings doing it.
